Strawberry Shortcake

With my eldest son in 5-day-a-week preschool, it seems we have a birthday invitation for nearly every weekend. I’m doing my best to make each child a personalized card to go along with their gift (which I’m also doing my best to make – sometimes I get it done, sometimes we end up at the toy store instead).

For a party a few weeks ago, the birthday girl was especially fond of Strawberry Shortcake. I used my Google skills to see what she looks like these days, as she’s changed since I was a kid. I also stumbled upon some punch art by Rose Marie and was inspired to make my own Strawberry Shortcake birthday card. That’s one of the things I love best about stamping – people are encouraged to CASE (Copy And Share Extensively!) stamped works.

Here’s how my card turned out. First I started with this:

  • Two wide ovals from the Sale-A-Bration Designer Series Paper: one had been punched twice so it’s more moon-shaped than oval
  • Two scallop circles: one has been cut in half, one has been cut into a 3 scallop pie-shaped wedge
  • One wide oval from Very Vanilla cardstock
  • One 1-1/4″ square from the Sale-A-Bration Designer Series Paper
  • One word window from the Sale-A-Bration Designer Series Paper: Cut into thirds, middle third discarded
  • Four word windows from Very Vanilla cardstock

What? You don’t see Strawberry Shortcake in these punches? Okay – here’s the final card:

I completed the card with a hand-drawn face using my Stampin’ Write Journal marker, a cupcake from the cupcake punch (love the Glimmer Paper for the cherry!), a birthday sentiment from the Family Phrases stamp set, and a strawberry from the Tart and Tangy stamp set.

So cute!
