Lego Storage Box

I’m on a mission this year to use up all the items I’ve purchased to alter over the past few years. I have two huge boxes full of those “someday” gifts. “Someday” is now!

First up was a recipe box that I picked up in some dollar bin. I forgot to take a picture of it before I started altering, but it had giant strawberries on the front and back. Not really my style, but I thought the box was cute.

Well, the box was sitting out on the floor (yeah, my stamp room has stuff all over the floor again, surprised?), as I lamented how I was going to put away my son’s Lego Advent calendar with it’s 200+ pieces. The Lego box itself was destroyed in the process of opening a new toy each day, so repacking in that wasn’t an option. I decided to cut up the Lego box and scan each day’s instructions, so that we’d be able to reassemble everything next year without too much difficulty. Then I cut out the Lego icon and used my Modern Label punch to cut out the part of the box listing the number of pieces. The Legos fit perfectly in the strawberry-themed recipe box, but I decided to “boy” it up by covering the bottom of the box with a piece of paper from last year’s Play Date Designer Series Paper collection. If you like this paper, hurry over to the Clearance Rack – it’s only $1.99 for 12 assorted sheets right now!

I think this is a perfect way to (1) store the Legos for next year and (2) put one of my “alterable” items to good use. My son grabbed ahold of the box and carried it around for awhile, so I think he approves!
